Project Overview
Beyond the Orphanage is an Australian non-profit supporting children mainly in Nepal and Kenya. The organization needed a modern website that was easier to maintain, safer to run, and better equipped to support fundraising online.
BTO needed more than a visual refresh. The site had maintenance issues, outdated components, security risk, and no direct online donation flow. We rebuilt the website around maintainability, payments, performance, and search visibility.
The Problem
BTO’s website had become outdated in both design and functionality. The organization also faced maintainability and security issues, and the site did not support online donations.
The main issues were:
- Custom solutions without documentation.
- Outdated frameworks and plugins that created security risk.
- No online payment option for donations.
- Low performance and weak SEO.
The Solution
We treated the project as a website modernization effort with four priorities: maintainability, security, fundraising capability, and visibility.
Redesign with fewer custom dependencies
We rebuilt the site using commonly used tools and plugins instead of relying heavily on undocumented custom solutions. This made the website easier to maintain and update.
Security and technical maintenance upgrade
We updated frameworks and plugins to current versions and introduced necessary security fixes. This addressed the risk created by outdated components.
Online donations added to the site
We integrated Stripe and Payoneer so supporters could make donations directly through the website.
Performance and SEO improvements
We optimized code and images and implemented technical SEO improvements. This addressed the site’s slow performance and limited search visibility.
